A North Texas man was sentenced Tuesday to 70 years in prison for murder during a robbery that happened in Fort Worth in June 2019.

Ahmad Farid, 36, sustained serious injuries after he was robbed at gunpoint late at night in the 5400 block of East Loop 820 South.

Farid was severely beaten during the robbery and he was taken to a local hospital, where he died four days later. His death was ruled a homicide.

Christon Jackson, who authorities allege committed the robbery along with April Marrero-Contreras and Tabitha Thomas, struck Farid with a pistol, causing blunt-force trauma to his head, police have said. The robbers stole the victim’s iPhone and his wallet, which had about $300 in it, according to police.

All three defendants were charged with murder in the months after the killing.

Jackson, 55, was sentenced Tuesday after a jury found him guilty, according to the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

The cases of the other two defendants are still pending, according to court records.

The murder case against a fourth defendant, Maurice Washington, was dismissed in May after he was convicted of burglary in a separate case and sentenced to 10 years, court records show.
