16-year-old killed, two other victims injured in separate Fort Worth shooting calls
A 16-year-old was fatally shot by another child on Tuesday night, Nov. 5, in what was reported to Fort Worth police as an accidental shooting.
Officers were called about 9:10 p.m. to a house in the 3500 block of Avenue L and found the teen with a gunshot wound to his upper body, a police spokesperson said. First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the victim died at the scene.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the teen as Damariion Henton, who was a student at Polytechnic High School. His cause and manner of death aren’t yet listed.
Detectives have interviewed the suspect, but no arrests have been made. According to police, the juvenile suspect was handling a pistol and told police that it discharged by accident and shot Henton.
Fort Worth ISD said in a statement that school officials are “deeply saddened by the loss of a student from Polytechnic High School. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the student’s family, friends, and the entire Poly community during this difficult time.”
School officials said counseling would be made available on campus.
Homicide detectives are investigating the teen’s killing.
Police investigated a separate shots-fired call about 8:35 p.m. near the intersection of East Bluff and North Hampton streets, northeast of downtown Fort Worth.
Officers were called to Tia’s on the Bluff Mexican restaurant, at 1301 E. Bluff St. A 911 caller reported that a man with a rifle was firing shots in the area.
Investigators determined that a man assaulted two female victims, fired a gun and then left the scene, police said. It’s unclear whether anyone was shot, but one victim was transported to a hospital with injuries and the other was treated by medics at the scene, the spokesperson said. Both victims in that case are expected to survive.
No arrests have been announced in the assault case. Investigators found five spent shell casings from a .223 rifle at the scene, according to a police report.
