Fort Worth teen indicted on murder charge in case involving sale of bullets, robbery

Stanley Jackson stood by a Buick on Eagle Ridge Drive the night of March 24 ready to sell three bullets.

Within seconds, someone pointed a shotgun and opened fire on Jackson as another person tried to pull him into the car, according to a warrant.

Jackson dropped to the ground and lay dead on the street after being shot in the face. The suspects drove away from the scene, according to an arrest warrant obtained this week by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

But an investigation led to the arrest of 19-year-old Cortavious Meeks of Fort Worth and two other suspects in the case.

A Tarrant County grand jury on Monday indicted Meeks on a charge of murder.

Meeks remained in the Tarrant County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond on the murder charge. He also was being held on a $1,000 bond on a criminal trespass charge.

He was charged with murder on April 29.

Eighteen-year-old Jonathan Coffey and Isaiah Martin, 17, have been charged with failure to report a felony in the case. Their trials are pending.

A fourth teen, Nathaniel Fountain, also was charged with murder in the case, but the grand jury on Monday declined to indict him on the charge.

The warrant written by Detecive KM Bickley gave this account of the shooting:

At about 11:45 p.m. on March 24, Jackson called someone to arrange a meeting on Eagle Ridge Drive to sell three .22LR bullets.

The conversation also included plans on setting up a “lick” or robbery, according to the warrant.

A witness said Jackson stayed on the cell phone to give the people he was about to meet directions.

Minutes later, a Buick arrived with the driver who had been talking to Jackson.

The passenger side window rolled down, but a witness said he saw someone in the back seat holding what he believed to be a shotgun or an AK-47 rifle.

When a struggle ensued between Jackson and a suspect, there was a loud gunshot, according to the warrant.

Jackson fell to the ground while the suspects drove away from the scene.

He died from a shotgun wound to his face, according to a ruling by officials at the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Detectives believed Jackson and another man were trying to rob the teens in the Buick when gunfire erupted, according to the warrant.

Jackson was in possession of a BB gun at the time of the shooting.

Jackson was found dead by Fort Worth police officers in a parking lot in the 1000 block of Eagle Ridge Drive on March 25 after they were dispatched to a shots-fired call.
