Grand Prairie man’s death ruled a suicide; girlfriend’s cause of death still unknown

Investigators ruled a Grand Prairie man’s death a suicide following the disappearance of both him and his girlfriend.

Alfonso Hernandez, 28, was found dead in White Rock Lake in February. The body of Weltzin Garcia, Hernandez’s longtime girlfriend, was found in Mountain Creek Lake, 22 miles west of White Rock Lake, in early April.

Garcia’s cause of death has not been determined. Hernandez’s cause of death was released Thursday, according to Star-Telegram media partner WFAA.

Garcia, 26, and Hernandez were reported missing by family members in early February. A day later, Hernandez’s vehicle was found near White Rock Lake in Dallas.

The couple had two young children together.

Days before the couple went missing, police issued an arrest warrant charging Hernandez with assaulting Garcia, police confirmed.
