Kroger on Bonds Ranch Road will be first with this premium, artisan coffee shop

The new Kroger Marketplace opening soon on East Bonds Ranch Road won’t have the typical Starbucks cafe inside, like many other Kroger locations.

Instead, grocery shoppers in far north Fort Worth will be able sip on unique artisanal brews with handcrafted syrups from a small but growing local roaster.

Pax & Beneficia, which has seven locations including downtown Fort Worth, will operate a full-service cafe inside the Kroger Marketplace, which is slated to open this fall on Bonds Ranch Road at U.S. 287.

The coffee shop — whose name means “peace and blessings” — started in Las Colinas in 2019. Other locations now include the Waterside shopping center off Bryant Irving Road, Grapevine, Dallas and Plano.

Pax & Beneficia’s owner, Mouyyad Abdulhadi, told the Star Telegram that this will be the company’s first location in a grocery store.

“Kroger was a natural fit for us because we share a focus on community and accessibility,” Abdulhadi said. “Partnering with them allows us to meet our guests where they are, making it easier to enjoy a specialty coffee experience as part of their daily routine.”

John Votava, a Kroger spokesperson, told the Star Telegram that the grocer partnered with Pax & Beneficia because it is “always seeking the best fit in each area where we operate, and our first choice is to partner with local companies.”

What is Pax & Beneficia?

Pax & Beneficia is an artisanal coffee shop which emphasizes quality over quantity.

Its coffee beans are sourced from Ethiopia, Columbia, Mexico and East Africa. The company then freshly roasts the beans in small batches at its Grapevine cafe.

Pax & Beneficia also makes its own coffee syrups in house. Flavors include vanilla, lavender, cardamom, orange and honey.

Abdulhadi and co-owner Mamdouh Khayat are both Palestinian American so they bring some Turkish influence to the menu.

Their Zahr latte tastes like “baklava in a cup.” A non-coffee drink called the “Yara” is blended lemon juice, mint and ginger. They also serve Turkish coffee (without milk) on a cezve (Turkish coffee pot).

Though P&B is an artisanal company, they also serve all the basics like an Americano or cold brew. Their food is mainly toasts and sandwiches.

Will Pax & Beneficia serve its full menu at Kroger?

Abdulhadi confirmed that the Kroger location will be like a mini Pax & Beneficia.

“Guests will be able to enjoy our entire menu including our signature drinks and food items,” he told the Star Telegram. “Our goal is to bring the same quality, hospitality, and experience people expect from Pax & Beneficia, in a convenient, everyday shopping environment.”

When will Kroger open on Bonds Ranch Road?

The new Kroger Marketplace does not have a specific opening date yet, but the company has confirmed the store is slated to open sometime this fall.

Located at 113 E. Bonds Ranch Road, it will feature a wider range of products including home goods, electronics and clothing as well as a gas station.

Just east of the Kroger, another new development in the works will have 300 apartments, multiple restaurants, retail stores and an early childhood learning center.
