This North Texas city will host next year’s Japan-Texas Economic Summit

The U.S.-Japan Council announced Monday the return of the Japan-Texas Economic Summit, which will be held in Arlington on May 11-13, 2026.

The goal of the Japan-Texas Economic Summit is to bring leaders together to discuss economics, business and politics and to further relationships between the U.S. and Japan, according to its website. The first, and most recent, summit was held in Houston in 2018.

The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) reports that more than 300 companies provide upwards of 75,000 jobs for Texans. Some Japanese companies present in the state include Toyota, Fujifilm, SoftBank and Mitsubishi.

“Japan is the No. 1 source country for new jobs created by FDI (foreign direct investment) in Texas and the third-largest source for capital investment created by FDI,” according to the Office of Gov. Greg Abbott.

Japan has the fourth-largest economy in the world, and Texas has the eighth-largest. The DFW metroplex flexes the largest economy in the state, worth $709 billion.

Here’s what to know about the upcoming summit.

Why will Arlington host the Japan-Texas Economic Summit?

Arlington is located in the heart of the DFW metroplex, an area that is projected to become the third-largest metropolitan area in the U.S. by 2030. according to demographic data.

“This explosive growth mirrors broader dynamics unfolding across Texas, from the energy capital of Houston to the innovation corridor of Austin and San Antonio,” according to Business Wire. “Together with the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, these cities form the Texas Triangle, where five of the nation’s 15 largest cities form a megaregion driving over 75% of Texas’s $2.7 trillion GDP.”

Even though it will have been eight years between the first summit and and the 2026 summit, the U.S.-Japan council says it will become an annual event.

Who can attend the 2026 Japan-Texas Economic Summit?

Not everyone can attend the Japan-Texas Economic Summit.

The three-day conference is held for “top business leaders, investors, government officials, and economic development organizations,” according to the news release.

Where in Arlington will the Japan-Texas Economic Summit be held?

The Summit will be held at Live! by Loews Hotel at 600 E. Randol Mill Road in Arlington from Monday, May 11 to Wednesday, May 13, 2026.

This luxury hotel is right next door to AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field, with views of both venues. It has more than 35,000 square feet of event space and can host 1,500 guests with its 300-room accommodations.
