What to order from the extensive menu at new Hyderabad House in Fort Worth
The new Hyderabad House Biryani Place near Alliance Town Center has an extensive menu of Indian dishes.
The menu offers fried rice, noodles, curries, kebab, but the restaurant is known for its biryani rice. (Biryani rice is the “crown jewel” of most Hyderbadi Houses.) However, there are more than 20 different options for that dish.
Biryani is a rice dish that layers rice and meat, made with aromatic spices. What makes this dish so flavorful is the way they cook it, using the dum cooking method. This is a slow-cooking process that really allows the spices, rice and meat to blend together. For those who don’t eat meat, there are also vegetarian options (veggies, paneer, egg).
Hyderabad House sells buckets of its biryani rice for takeout. Customers can get a bucket for two to three people or four to six. Individual biryani servings are also offered for dine-in or takeout.
If you have never ordered from a Hyderabadi restaurant before, it can feel overwhelming. Here’s a guide on what to order at Fort Worth’s new Hyderabad House.
Biryani rice at Fort Worth’s new Hyderabad House
Since Hyderabad House is known for their biryani rice, guests should try this popular dish.
Here’s a breakdown of their biryani options and what to know:
- For those who don’t have an adventurous palate, start with any chicken, veggie, paneer or egg options. Paneer is an Indian cheese with a soft texture that does not melt (making it a good substitute for meat) and a slightly acidic and sweet taste.
- Signature biryanis have a different cooking method than the typical “slow cook.” Instead, they use the “pakki” method where the meat and rice are cooked separately and then layered.
- Mutton is sheep and mutton rara is a curry-spiced-like biryani rice.
- Naatu Kodi biryani is a “country chicken” biryani rice. This is only sold on Friday and Saturday.
- Gutti Vankay is a vegetarian option that mainly consists of stuffed eggplant.
- Kofta is meatballs made of minced meat.
- Dum biryani means the rice is layered with meat or veggie and slow cooked over a low heat. This option comes with chicken, goat and veggie.
- Fry piece biryani means the meat or protein option is fried before layered into the rice. This option comes with shrimp, goat or chicken.
- Nawabi Dum biryani is only sold on weekends and this means these dishes are slow cooked and also have a slightly more subtle flavor profile. Typical biryani is known for being robust and a little spicy.
Other recommendations from the Hyderabad House menu
While Hyderabad House is known for its biryani, there are many other Indian dishes worth trying:
- No matter what you order, you must get a side of naan bread (chilli garlic, plain garlic, bullet (stuffed with a filling), butter or tandoori). Any dish is delicious when it is wrapped in naan bread.
- Tandoori is when food is prepared in a clay oven over high-heat, giving food a smokey flavor. The Tandoori Chicken Tikka Kebab is a great option for those who love tiki masala but want just the meat.
- Tiki Masala and Butter Masala are the most popular Indian dishes in the U.S. If you do not know where to start and want to play it safe, you cannot go wrong with these. There are both vegetarian and meat options.
- Momos are delicious dumplings stuffed with either veggies or meat. Traditionally, they are steamed, which Hyderabad House does offer, but for those who like a crunch, they also offer fried momo. They also have these in the Tikka flavor for those who like Tikka Masala.
