Fort Worth receives international acclaim for film and TV production boom

Film and television production has exploded in Fort Worth over the past few years, and the rest of the world is starting to notice.

Since 2015, when the Fort Worth Film Commission was established, the film industry has driven $1 billion in economic impact and created over 50,000 jobs in Cowtown. Several major productions have filmed in the city, including “Landman,” “Lioness” and “Dutton Ranch.”

Fort Worth, and the Fort Worth Film Commission, were honored last week with the Emerging Location Award at the Global Production Awards in Cannes, France.

“In just 10 years, the Fort Worth Film Commission has grown from a new office to attracting top film and TV projects, like Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Landman,’ which was the third most-watched original series of 2025,” film commissioner Taylor Hardy said in a statement. “We have worked diligently to strengthen Fort Worth’s film economy and international image; this recognition solidifies our position as a premier production destination.”

Fort Worth wins big in France

Founded in 2023 by Screen International, the Global Production Awards celebrate film productions, commissions, locations and more.

The Emerging Location Award is awarded to a film commission that demonstrates “an increased number of productions, attractive incentives, improved levels of service, growing crew base and infrastructure, as well as a variety of filming locations,” according to Screen International.

In addition, the judges examined evidence of the emerging location’s problem-solving approach, customer service, community contribution and all the location has to offer.

“Fort Worth has come out of nowhere in the last decade. With the new incentive and volume of production, the location has become quite a powerhouse,” one judge at the ceremony said.

Nearly 30 judges, mostly international entertainment executives representing studios and film commissions, comprised the awards panel.

In April, the Global Production Awards announced Fort Worth as a shortlist finalist for the Emerging Location Award alongside El Paso, Slovakia, Spain and Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Also at last week’s ceremony, the Dallas Film Commission was awarded the Economic and Social Impact Award for its Pegasus Media Project.
