Texas Motor Speedway hosting screening of ‘F1: The Movie’ for flood relief
A Fort Worth sports venue is hosting a screening of a racing movie at an actual speedway for a good cause.
Texas Motor Speedway will show the Brad Pitt-starring “F1: The Movie” at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1 on its “Big Hoss TV.” There’s a $20 minimum per vehicle, with all event proceeds benefiting Central Texas flood relief.
Speedway Children’s Charities is hosting the event and is accepting cash and credit cards on-site. Folks can also register online for the event here.
Gates open at 7 p.m., and attendees can access the speedway’s infield through the south tunnel off State Highway 114.
Folks can bring their own snacks and drinks, along with any blankets or camping chairs, but no tents. Just like an actual drive-in theater, folks will need to use an FM radio to hear the film’s audio.
Andy’s Frozen Custard will also be on-site and is donating 20 percent of its sales to flood relief.
The “F1” event comes just a couple weeks after the speedway screened the new live-action “How to Train Your Dragon” film on July 18.
More than 2,000 people and nearly 700 vehicles attended the event, which also benefited Central Texas flood relief. In total, Speedway Children’s Charities raised almost $21,000 for the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.
“F1: The Movie” stars Pitt as racing legend Sonny Hayes, who is coaxed into leading a struggling Formula 1 team and mentoring a young hotshot while chasing one last chance at redemption.
The film opened in theaters on June 27 and has grossed more than $500 million worldwide.
