Buc-ee’s, Robert Earl Keen partnering on Texas flood benefit concert

Robert Earl Keen is partnering with Buc-ee’s on a concert fundraiser that will benefit those impacted by the Texas Hill Country floods.

The one-night-only fundraiser, dubbed “Applause for the Cause,” will be at the Whitewater Amphitheater on Aug. 28. The venue is located in New Braunfels just off the Guadalupe River.

Keen will be joined by many of his famous friends, including Tyler Childers, Miranda Lambert, Randy Rogers, Ryan Bingham, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Cross Canadian Ragweed.

Attendees can expect a set from Keen and Childers, along with a set from the trio of Lambert, Jon Randall and Jack Ingram. In total, more than two dozen performers are set for the benefit.

“This is a star-studded lineup with music starting in the mid-afternoon and lasting far into the night,” Keen said in a news release. “We must help everyone as much as we can, for as long as we can.”

Tickets for the event will go on sale at noon on July 18 via Whitewater’s website.

All of the proceeds will benefit the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, a charitable foundation “that supports nonprofits and local causes in the region,” according its website.

Buc-ee’s, one of the event’s sponsors, has pledged a $1 million donation to the foundation.

“We are pleased to have the opportunity to support the relief efforts of so many for our beloved Hill Country. The tragedies are beyond belief.” Buc-ee’s founder Arch “Beaver” Aplin said in a press release. “Buc-ee’s teaming with Robert Earl Keen and friends for this benefit concert just seemed like the right thing to do. When we learned 100 percent of our commitment goes to the Community Foundation of the Hill Country, we were all in.”

When buying a ticket, attendees will have an opportunity to purchase a pass for a local first responder. Folks can also buy first responder’s tickets without attending the event, according to organizers.

Doors for “Applause for the Cause” will open at 3 p.m. with music from Lloyd Maines and the Austin City Limits Band. More bands and singers will perform over the evening, concluding with a set from Keen and Childers.

The event is sponsored by Whitewater Amphitheater, Miller Pro AVL, C.C. Creations, Dorothy Nottingham and Buc-ee’s.

What happened in the Texas Hill Country floods

A total of 134 people have died from flooding over the Fourth of July Weekend in the Texas Hill Country.

At least 101 people are still missing statewide, with a majority of those in or around Kerrville, Gov. Greg Abbott said earlier this week at a news briefing. Officials also said it could take months to recover everyone who is missing.

The flooding hits close to home for Keen, who is a resident of Kerrville and had previously sent his daughters to the now-devastated Camp Mystic.
