Lake Ridge softball edges Centennial, Aledo and Kennedale baseball earn Game 1 wins

SOFTBALL

Mansfield Lake Ridge 4, Burleson Centennial 3

Emily Olguin’s squeeze bunt in the top of the sixth scored Ala Rosalez and the Eagles (20-5) edged out the Spartans in Game 1 of their Class 5A Region II quarterfinal series.

Game 2 is 7 p.m. Friday at Lake Ridge.

Maddie Munoz recorded an RBI single in the second and Rosalez’s two-run single in the fourth gave Lake Ridge a 3-0 lead.

Karter Hill’s RBI single in the fourth put Centennial (18-11) on the board and Gracie Morton tied it in the fifth with a two-run home run to left-field.

BASEBALL

Aledo 3, Colleyville Heritage 2

Hunter Rosson's had the go-ahead RBI single in the top of the fifth and the Bearcats won Game 1 of their 5A Region I area round series with the Panthers.

Game 2 is 7:30 p.m. Friday at Justin Northwest.

Heritage (27-5) took the early 1-0 lead in the first on an Aledo error. The Bearcats (24-8-1) went up 2-1 in the second with an RBI double from Zach Reinert and a bases-loaded walk.

Chance Roberts came in relief and allowed one hit in three innings.

Kennedale 2, Vernon 0

Jared Taylor threw a four-hit shutout and the Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in their 4A Region I area round series.

Kennedale (23-6-1) scored runs on a Cade Thompson RBI single in the third and Brandon Jones RBI double in the sixth.

Game 2 is 1 p.m. Saturday at Graham.

Denton 8, Richland 5

Jan Cabrera and Joseph Frisby drove in runs to break a 2-2 tie in the second inning and the Broncos went on to beat the Rebels in Game 1 of their 5A Region I area round series.

Game 2 is 7 p.m. Friday at Lewisville.

Denton (21-11-1) went up 2-0 in the first before Richland (23-8) tie it in the top of the second with a two-run double from Cameron Coffee. The Broncos scored three times in the fifth and the Rebels scored three in the sixth.
