Police still seeking ID of burned, dismembered body found in Grapevine
The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office was expected to perform an autopsy Thursday on the body found burned and dismembered in a park near Lake Grapevine, police said.
That will help identify the body, which was found about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, said Sgt. Robert Eberling, a Grapevine police spokesman.
The body was found in Acorn Woods Park off Oak Grove Loop South, near the Scott’s Landing Marina on Lake Grapevine. Police blocked access to the area for most of the day and re-opened the park Wednesday evening.
Eberling said the body was in a wooded area about 30 yards off a road. The gender has not been confirmed by police, but the victim is possibly a Hispanic female, a source told the Star-Telegram.
Eberling said the preliminary investigation indicates the killing was an isolated incident.
The FBI assisted in the investigation Wednesday, providing evidence technicians to help with the recovery of the body. Eberling said Grapevine police called on the FBI because they wanted to “utilize their resources,” he said.
The family of a missing Richardson real estate agent, Camelia Perez-Hernandez, was notified by police that a body had been found in Grapevine, a spokeswoman for the family said. Police contacted the family as a courtesy, not because they have a positive ID, the spokeswoman said.
Perez-Hernandez, 25, was reported missing in July. An arrest warrant was issued in August for her boyfriend, Luis Rodriguez, 41, who also hasn’t been seen since July, according to WFAA-TV.
