Cardinals will not start Kyler Murray vs. Cowboys; Dallas has three safeties out

Ahead of the Dallas Cowboys’ Monday night clash with the Arizona Cardinals, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray will not start as he works his way back from a foot injury that has kept him out of two games.

Instead, Arizona will turn to veteran Jacoby Brissett.

“We’ve been preparing for Kyler,” Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said on Wednesday. “But we also had plans and knew that we could be facing Jacoby. The big thing about Jacoby is that he’s an incredible leader and a powerful passer.”

For the Cowboys, they will once again be without both starting safeties, as Malik Hooker (toe) remains in injured reserve and Donovan Wilson (elbow/shoulder) was ruled out for the second consecutive game. Depth safety Alijah Clark (ribs) was also ruled out, while Juanyeh Thomas (migraine) is listed as questionable. The only healthy safety heading into Monday’s matchup is fourth-year veteran Markquese Bell.

As depth options, the Cowboys will turn to undrafted rookie Zion Childress, who got more work this week at the position in practice. Emergency options also include special teams ace C.J. Goodwin and Reddy Steward, who played his first career snaps at safety last week against the Broncos.

Linebacker Jack Sanborn was also ruled out with a groin injury. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. and defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey will all remain on IR/NFI lists and will not play against Arizona. All three are expected back after the bye week.

Potentially making his way off of injured reserve, starting center Cooper Beebe is expected to make his return from a lateral ankle sprain/foot injury he suffered in week two of the season. He was officially ruled questionable, but is expected to play.

For the Cardinals, linebacker B.J. Ojulari (knee) was ruled out. Murray has been listed as questionable alongside cornerback Will Johnson (groin), safety Kitan Crawford (ankle), defensive tackle Walter Nolen (calf) and cornerback Garrett Williams (knee).
