Stephen A. Smith says this fix could help Dallas Cowboys reach the Super Bowl

The Dallas Cowboys fell 44-24 to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, and following the loss, many pundits said the team needed to make a trade to help the defense if it wanted to be a playoff contender.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith explained why he thought the Cowboys should make a trade.

“You don’t need a prolific defense,” Smith said on “First Take.” “You need a decent defense. A decent defense, literally a middle-of-the-road defense, could propel the Dallas Cowboys to their first NFC championship game in 30 years.”

Smith mentioned names the Cowboys could sign like Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson, Las Vegas Raders defensive end Maxx Crosby and Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons. The Cowboys have reportedly inquired about Hendrickson and Crosby, but struck out on both.

Some, including the Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris, believe the team is too far away from contention to risk the first-round picks it received in the Micah Parsons trade and instead think the team should avoid any win-now trades.

The Cowboys will have a little over a week to decide what moves to make before the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 4.

Dallas (3-4-1) hosts the Arizona Cardinals (2-5) at 7:15 p.m. Nov. 3 at AT&T Stadium on “Monday Night Football.”
