‘This scandal ruined lives.’ Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scheme rattles MLB.
Do you remember the scene in the film “Goodfellas” when it all came to an end for the bad guys?
With Eric Clapton’s “Layla” providing a sweeping soundtrack moment, we see the ugly demise of the men responsible for a bunch of crimes.
“Layla” is now playing for Major League Baseball.
Three teams are without managers with spring training less than a month away. Carlos Beltran is the latest to be relieved of his duties in the wake of the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal that cost manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow their jobs.
Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who was the Astros’ bench coach in 2017 during the scandal, was fired earlier this week.
The scandal has rocked the league and left three top teams scrambling to regroup.
Rangers broadcaster and MLB Network Radio analyst C.J. Nitkowski has echoed the sentiments of many around the game on social media.
“The damage done by the decision to cheat and then cheat again is absolutely jaw dropping,” Nitkowski posted on Twitter. “The inner circle of this scandal ruined lives.”
