Texas Rangers’ Mike Minor deals ‘savage’ burn to Alex Cora and Red Sox beat writer

Mike Minor threw a brush back pitch Tuesday night.

The Texas Rangers left-hander took a shot at former Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora and beat writer Pete Abraham after Cora was dismissed by the team for his part in the Houston Astros’ sign-stealing scandal.

“But he plays the game the right way,” Minor posted on Twitter after the news of Cora’s dismissal. “Whatcha got Pete?”

Minor was referencing an incident from September when he recorded his 200th strikeout after Rangers’ infielders let a foul ball drop so Minor had a chance to reach the milestone. After the game, Cora threw shade at Minor and the Rangers by saying he was glad that his team “played the right way.”

Cora was a bench coach for the Astros in 2017 when they won the World Series. MLB levied harsh penalties against the team on Monday, which resulted in the team firing manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow.

On Twitter, Abraham, who covers the Red Sox for the Boston Globe, called the play bush league and unprofessional. Minor replied at the time with “Ask me if I care, Pete.”

As of late Tuesday, Abraham had not responded to Minor’s question.
