Colonial adds popular Fort Worth restaurant to its food offerings for tournament
Heim Barbecue is coming to Colonial.
Fort Worth’s popular barbecue joint will have its food truck on site for next week’s Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club.
“We’re honored to have our new food truck out at Colonial this year,” Travis Heim wrote in an email to the Star-Telegram. “I think I’ve attended every tournament for the past 20-ish years and was fortunate to play in the pro-am last year, which was a really cool experience.
“As a diagnosed golf addict, happy to be able to work and watch some of the best golfers in the world a few feet away.”
Heim said the food truck will offer a limited menu to help with the speed of serving customers but fans will see all of the restaurant favorites available including bacon burnt ends, brisket, pulled pork and sausage.
The food truck will be located by the driving range.
“We’re really excited that we’ll have Heim’s food truck on site Thursday through Sunday,” said Jim Whitten, Colonial’s tournament committee chairman. “We’ve been talking about it for a while. Schwab has asked about getting food trucks on site for a while so we’re dipping our toes in it.”
Whitten said it was important for the tournament to test these waters with a known brand such as Heim. Heim has become a BBQ staple in the area after starting off as a food truck in 2015.
“You want somebody that people have heard of and know,” Whitten said. “Heim BBQ just fits what we do versus some other type of place. We’re trying it out with these guys. If it’s very successful, we’ll figure out where to do more of them. It’s an experiment but we’re excited.”
There will be an additional 22 concession stands located throughout the course.
Tournament rounds for the Colonial are scheduled May 26-29. Tickets are available for purchase through the tournament’s website.
