Colonial lands another big name for this year’s Charles Schwab Challenge
Colonial added some star power on Thursday.
Justin Thomas, the No. 8 player in the world golf rankings, committed to this year’s Charles Schwab Challenge. Thomas gives Fort Worth’s annual PGA Tour stop half of the world’s top-10 golfers in the field.
Thomas will be making his third consecutive appearance at the Colonial. He finished tied for 10th in 2020 and tied for 40th last season.
Along with Thomas, other top-10 players committed include Collin Morikawa (No. 3), Viktor Hovland (No. 6), Jordan Spieth (No. 9) and Sam Burns (No. 10).
Colonial officials are still waiting to see if top-ranked golfer and Dallas resident Scottie Scheffler joins the field. Scheffler could have a conflict but has yet to tell tournament officials either way.
Golfers have until May 20 to commit to the field. Tournament rounds are scheduled May 26-29. Tickets are available for purchase through the tournament’s website.
Jason Kokrak returns as the defending champion. Other former winners in the field include Kevin Na, Justin Rose, Kevin Kisner, Zach Johnson, Rory Sabbatini and Spieth.
From a local perspective, former TCU golfers Tom Hoge and Paul Barjon are in the field as is former Texas A&M standout and Colleyville resident Ryan Palmer.
