This Grapevine superstar will headline the closing FIFA World Cup ceremony

FIFA announced details about the closing ceremony of the World Cup Wednesday, July 15 as the tournament nears the end of its 39-day run.

While North Texans bid farewell to the tournament at the ninth and final match at “Dallas Stadium” on July 14, fans can still look forward to a local ending to the finale at New York New Jersey Stadium on July 19.

Grammy-nominated international superstar Post Malone, who was raised in Grapevine, will give the headline performance at the kick-off event ahead of the final match Sunday.

“At a time when sport, culture and global attention converge, Post Malone will deliver a performance designed to celebrate the tournament’s journey and ignite the atmosphere before the world’s attention turns to the two finalists,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Infantino said the star-studded closing ceremony will “set the tone for a historic FIFA World Cup finale.”

In total, 48 teams and 16 host cities brought fans from all over the world to the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

The closing ceremony is in partnership with Balich Wonder Studio and Malone’s performance will start at 1:30 p.m. local time, approximately 90 minutes before kickoff.

Malone, born Austin Richard Post, has made hundreds of songs since his debut in 2015, and has had 67 songs on the Billboard top 100 list. Six of those were No. 1 hits, and 14 of them were top 10 hits, according to Billboard.

Malone performed at the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day Half-time show in 2025, in a partnership between the team and the Salvation Army called the Red Kettle Campaign.
