After breakout year, Southlake Carroll tight end Blake Smith signs NLI with Texas A&M
Southlake Carroll 3-star TE Blake Smith signed his national letter of intent with Texas A&M University on Wednesday during the early signing period.
Smith committed to A&M in June. He also had offers from Alabama, Baylor, Boston College, Cal, Colorado, UConn, Florida International, Florida State, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas State, Liberty, Louisiana Lafayette, LSU, Marshall, Miami, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Rutgers, South Carolina, TCU, Central Florida, Utah, Vanderbilt, Virginia and Washington.
Smith became a rising prospect late last year and continued to turn heads during the off-season, especially at the state 7-on-7 tournament in College Station during the summer.
He’s ranked as the No. 23 TE in the nation and No. 73 overall prospect in the state, according to 247Sports.
In the past two years with SLC, Smith made 46 catches for 583 yards and 13 touchdowns, the majority of which came this season (40 receptions, 491 yards, 11 TDs).
His best game came against Midland Lee in the 6A Division I regional round when he posted seven catches for 105 yards and three TDs.
The Dragons have gone 13-1, won the district title and went to the state quarterfinals each of the past two seasons.
