4-star Alabama signee, reigning all-area POTY Myra Gordon makes her return from injury

Four-star Alabama signee Myra Gordon missed the past month (nine games) with a strained hamstring, but made her return on Tuesday night in the District 3-6A opener.

Despite missing a significant amount of time, LD Bell managed a winning record, 6-3, without the reigning District MVP and all-area player of the year.

“I feel like it helped all of us grow. I saw some of my teammates strengths and now I can utilize to help make us even better,” Gordon said. “I feel like we’re about to make a really strong run.”

One of those wins came Dec. 3 at Grapevine as the Blue Raiders won 50-42.

“Girls stepped up and got the win on the road versus a good Grapevine team,” Bell coach Andy Bloodworth said after the game.

Gordon, who signed with Bama in November, was selected to the Class 6A all-state team last season after leading Dallas-Fort Worth with 27.4 points per game. She averaged 8.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, and scored a school-record 928 points for the 3-6A champs.

“It’s been different, but at the same time, it makes all of us better whether you’re a player or coach or manager, we all get better,” Bloodworth said after the Grapevine game. “Players handled it in a positive way. I’m a big believer in everything happens for a reason and if we keep on progressing without Myra, when she comes back, we’ll be in a good situation.”

And Gordon made her return as Bell improved to 13-3 and 1-0 in district against Haltom, 62-43.

“It was great. I’m still in restricted minutes and easing my way back into things, but it’s a lot of fun being back on the court with my girls,” said Gordon, who finished with a game-high 16 points.

The Blue Raiders are ranked No. 18 in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches 6A state rankings.

Bell will host Weatherford on Friday.
