Cash Jones was a running back on the junior varsity team at Brock last season when he was pulled up during the varsity’s playoff run to the Class 3A state semifinals.

Entering 2019, the running back position was up for grabs.

After a few injuries, the opportunity was there for Jones, who finished the season with 2,700 yards and 35 touchdowns. The Eagles reached the state semis for the third straight season.

Jones was voted to the Class 3A Associated Press Sports Editors Texas all-state football team, one of five Brock Eagles.

He finished with 211 carries, 1,565 yards and 22 TDs in 10 regular-season games.

“He exceeded expectations, but at the same time, it’s not a shocker,” Brock coach Chad Worrell said. “Cash had a great year and he’ll be the first to credit the offensive line. They led the way blocking. He was consistent week by week and never diminished.”

Brock, who went 12-3 this season, had two players voted as first team linemen; offensive senior Jackson Finney and defensive junior Brett Drillette. Finney had a 95% grade and helped block for a 300 yard per game rushing attack during the regular season. Drillette registered 107 tackles, seven sacks and five forced fumbles in his first varsity campaign.

“Jackson was a senior captain and really stepped in at right tackle. He did a great job all year long anchoring that line. Those linemen did a super job,” Worrell said. “Brett had a phenomenal year and ended up with over 140 tackles at the defensive end spot. He was really a force and made plays for us down the stretch.”

Luke Dillingham (defensive back) and Carson Carter (linebacker) were honorable mention.

“Carson and Luke were our first and second leading tacklers. Carson was in his first varsity season and Luke was a returner for us,” Worrell said. “Great year anchoring our defense, played consistent and gave us a chance to make that run.”

Brock fell short in the semis, 36-35, against Pottsboro. Jones rushed for over 250 yards and five TDs.

Grandview junior quarterback Dane Jentsch was voted offensive player of the year with 3,000 yards total offense and 36 TDs in the regular season. He was also voted first team DB for the Zebras.

Grandview will defend its 3A Division I state title vs. Pottsboro, 3 p.m. Thursday at AT&T Stadium.

Here is a look at the Class 3A all-state football team, as voted by the media. Stats are based on regular season only.
