Quinn Ewers, former No. 1 recruit from Southlake Carroll, is transferring to Texas

Quinn Ewers, who led Southlake Carroll to the Class 6A Division 1 state championship game in January, is transferring to Texas.

Ewers entered the transfer portal at Ohio State earlier in December. He reclassified from the Class of 2022 to 2021 and enrolled early with the Buckeyes in August.

He was committed to UT in August 2020, but two months later, Ewers decommitted from the Longhorns and committed to Ohio State. He is the highest ranked recruit to chose UT since Vince Young.

Following his decision to enter the portal, Ewers made multiple visits including to TCU with new Horned Frogs coach Sonny Dykes.

Ewers was eligible to play with Ohio State this season, but only appeared in two snaps. Ohio State is 10-2 and will play Utah in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.

A big reason the former Carroll quarterback enrolled early was to sign an NIL deal, which isn’t allowed at the high school level in Texas.

Ewers signed multiple NIL deals, which allows college players to profit from their name, image or likeness. He agreed to a multi-year contract with GT Sports Marketing worth $1.4 million. He also signed to an endorsement deal with Holy Kombucha, a Texas-based beverage out of Dallas.

Ewers was a 5-star QB at Carroll and became the No. 1 high school football player in the country among the Class of 2021, according to 247Sports.

Ewers threw for 6,500 yards and 73 touchdowns in two seasons for Carroll. He led the Dragons to a state semifinal appearance in 2019 and a state runner-up finish to Austin Westlake during the 2020 season.

As a sophomore, Ewers completed 72% of his passes and threw 45 touchdowns as Carroll went 13-1. Ewers was named Star-Telegram all-area offensive player of the year.

Southlake Carroll’s Quinn Ewers (3) is one of top high school quarterbacks in the nation. He has committed to attend Ohio State after his senior season. With the Supreme Court ruling in favor of NCAA student athletes to be both paid and to make money from their name, image and likeness (NIL), Ewers could make considerable money once he is done with high school.
