High-scoring offenses highlight Top 10 Fort Worth-area HS football games in Week 2
Another great Texas high school football season is underway with top showdowns all across the Fort Worth-area, including state finalists, state-ranked teams and new coaches.
As you get set for Week 2 games starting Thursday, let’s look at marquee matches among area teams.
Here is a look at the Fort Worth-area’s Top 10 games in Week 2:
1. Southlake Carroll (1-0) vs. Rockwall-Heath (1-0)
7 p.m. Thursday, Wilkerson-Sanders Stadium
The Carroll Dragons and Heath Hawks both come off high-powered offensive showings to kick off the season in Week 1. Carroll beat Highland Park 45-21 behind new starting quarterback Kaden Anderson. Running back Owen Allen rushed for 200 yards and James Lehman solidified himself as another weapon for Riley Dodge’s scheme. Heath won a shootout 56-49 over Keller Timber Creek. QB Josh Hoover threw for 400 yards and five touchdowns while 13 of his 19 completions went to Jay Fair (6-184-1) and Jordan Nabors (7-120-2).
Prediction: Carroll 60, Heath 35
2. Aledo (1-0) vs. Frisco Lone Star (1-0)
7 p.m. Thursday, Toyota Stadium
The two teams meet for the second straight year after last season’s 34-32 home win by the Aledo Bearcats. Aledo enters the showdown with a 47-7 victory over Parker county neighbor Weatherford. Ryan Williams rushed for three touchdowns. Garret Rangel was efficient throwing for 304 yards on 15 of 19 passes and four TDs during the Rangers’ 59-14 win over San Antonio Cornerstone.
Prediction: Aledo 38, Lone Star 31
3. Burleson (1-0) vs. Burleson Centennial (1-0)
7:30 p.m. Friday, Burleson ISD Stadium
The Boot Game enters its seventh season and the cross-town rivals meet for the 10th time overall. Centennial holds a 5-4 advantage, including wins over the Elks in the past three seasons. The Spartans won last year’s match, 38-34, at AT&T Stadium. The Spartans came back in Week 1 to beat Prosper Rock Hill 34-28 while the Elks blew out Abilene Wylie. Dylan Raiola threw for 291 yards on 20 of 27 passes and two TDs in his varsity debut.
Prediction: Burleson 31, Centennial 28
4. Euless Trinity (1-0) at Austin Westlake (1-0)
7:30 p.m. Friday
Two teams in the Class 6A Top 10 state rankings meet Friday night as No. 6 Trinity visits No. 1 Westlake, the defending 6A Division 1 state champs. 5-star Clemson commit Cade Klubnik is the No. 3 QB in the nation. He accounted for 284 yards and four TDs during a 54-13 win over Temple in Week 1. The Chaparrals, who won the 6A D2 title in 2019, have a 25-game winning streak. Trinity is coming off a 45-27 win over Arlington Lamar. 4-star Oklahoma State commit Ollie Gordon moved back to QB and accounted for five TDs.
Prediction: Westlake 41, Trinity 31
5. Midlothian Heritage (1-0) at Kennedale (1-0)
7:30 p.m. Friday
All-state defensive back Braden Waters made 12 tackles and one interception as the Kenndale Wildcats beat Decatur 21-7 last week. The Jaguars also started the season 1-0 after a 50-23 victory over Everman. Kaden Brown, Mason O’Neal and Jason Barela combined for 291 yards rushing and four TDs. The Wildcats and Jaguars meet for the fifth time in the past six seasons. Kennedale leads the series 3-1.
Prediction: Kennedale 42, Heritage 28
6. Lewisville (1-0) vs. Keller Timber Creek (0-1)
7 p.m. Thursday, Keller ISD Stadium
The Lewisville Farmers and Timber Creek Falcons combined for 99 points in Week 1. The Farmers beat Arlington Bowie, 50-7 behind 263 yards rushing. Four different rushers scored TDs. The Falcons dropped a nail-biter, 56-49 against Rockwall-Heath. Jacob Porter threw for 400 yards and five TDs. Lonnie Johnson made nine receptions for 125 yards and three TDs. Maddox Allbritton added 14 catches, 163 yards and one TD.
Prediction: Timber Creek 35, Lewisville 31
7. Hebron (0-1) vs. Arlington Martin (0-1)
7 p.m. Friday, Choctaw Stadium
Both teams took one to the chin last week against 6A state-ranked teams. Hebron lost 46-17 to Denton Guyer while Martin had a better showing during a 40-28 defeat at Austin Lake Travis. The Maritn Warriors beat the Hawks two years ago, 33-14 at UTA Maverick Stadium. Now they meet at Choctaw Stadium, formerly Globe Life Park.
Prediction: Martin 42, Hebron 21
8. Arlington (1-0) at Cedar Hill (0-1)
7 p.m. Friday
The Cedar Hill Longhorns lead the series with the Colts 5-3 after last year’s 28-21 victory at Globe Life Park. Last year’s meeting was the first since 2012. Arlington defeated Dallas Skyline last week, 35-28 while Cedar Hill lost to Rockwall, 42-29. A win this week will push Arlington to a 2-0 start for the fourth time in five years.
Prediction: Cedar Hill 28, Arlington 24
9. Mansfield Summit (0-1) vs. Mansfield (1-0)
7 p.m. Friday, Newsom Stadium
The Summit Jaguars and Mansfield Tigers meet for the 18th straight season. Mansfield has the slight 9-8 edge, which included a 27-20 win last year. The Tigers start the season 1-0 after defeating Bentonville West (AR) 28-21. Summit dropped a 20-14 decision against Oklahoma state champ Jenks in overtime.
Prediction: Summit 38, Mansfield 23
10. Keller (1-0) vs. Braswell (1-0)
7 p.m. Thursday, Collins Complex
Keller went into Abilene and blew out Cooper, 39-0. Austin Coleman rushed for 114 yards and three TDs and the Indians scored on the first play from scrimmage, a TD pass from Matthew Anderson to Amari Henry. The Braswell Bengals began the season with a 49-10 win over Mesquite Horn.
Prediction: Keller 27, Braswell 24
