Where TCU football stands as the opening of the transfer portal looms
The transfer portal officially opens Jan. 2, and TCU football will have a lot of work to do as the program aims to build off its 9-4 finish.
Aside from the departure of quarterback Josh Hoover, the Horned Frogs have mostly avoided losing key contributors so far, but more attrition is expected in the coming days.
Here are the Horned Frogs who have already declared their intention to enter the transfer portal:
QB Josh Hoover
The biggest loss so far, Hoover started for two-plus seasons at TCU and set the school single-season record for passing yards (3,949) in 2024. Hoover threw for 3,742 yards, 29 touchdowns and 13 interceptions this season.
DE Paul Oyewale
There’s some uncertainty about the defensive end’s status, as he still played in the Alamo Bowl after it was announced he intended to enter the portal. Oyewale had 31 tackles and two sacks this season.
WR Jordyn Bailey
A reserve receiver and younger brother of former Horned Frog running back Emani Bailey, the freshman entered the portal before the bowl game. Bailey had four catches for 36 yards this season.
Edge Jonathan Bax
The junior entered the portal on New Year’s Eve. Bax played behind All-Big 12 edge rusher Devean Deal and posted 14 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack in 243 snaps this season.
WR Gekyle Baker
The freshman was a four-star recruit in the class of 2024, but was unable to crack the rotation in two seasons.
TE Ka’Morreun Pimpton
A former North Crowley standout and LSU transfer, Pimpton dealt with injuries in his lone season in Fort Worth. Pimpton had 1 catch for a three-yard touchdown.
RB Derrick Carroll
The brother of linebacker Max Carroll, the freshman did not play this season.
CB Jonah Martinez
The junior reserve did not record any stats this season.
RB Nate Palmer
The freshman looked to be in contention to possibly be the starting running back after a strong spring camp, but his touches were limited. Palmer rushed 30 times for 139 yards this season.
