Former TCU quarterback Max Duggan finds home in another football league
When former TCU quarterback Max Duggan was released by the St Louis Battlehawks of the United Football League, head coach Anthony Becht said it was so the Davey O’Brien Award winner could pursue other opportunities.
That opportunity has revealed itself, as Duggan has signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League.
Duggan was one of three signings announced by the team, along with defensive lineman Joe Wallace and offensive lineman Dre Doiron. The Iowa native joins the Argonauts as they head into the defense of their Grey Cup title, the CFL’s Super Bowl equivalent.
This will be the third professional football league for Duggan since leaving TCU. He was originally selected in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL draft by the Los Angeles Chargers before being waived.
He played this past season for the Battlehawks, throwing for 696 yards with four touchdowns and adding 300 yards rushing with five more scores after taking over as the starter. St. Louis went 8-2 in the regular season before falling in the conference championship game.
TCU fans will never forget Duggan for his tenure with the team that crescendoed during the 2022 season, when he helped lead the Horned Frogs to the College Football Playoff national championship game. He was also the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy after throwing for 3,698 yards and 32 touchdowns and rushing for 423 yards and nine more scores.
