Former TCU quarterback Max Duggan released by UFL team at his request

Former TCU quarterback Max Duggan was cut by the United Football League’s St. Louis Battlehawks, seemingly at his behest.

Battlehawks head coach Anthony Becht posted on X that Duggan “asked us for his release to pursue other opportunities.”

“Max was a DAWG for us..a tremendous player & person,” Becht posted. “I will NEVER prevent a player from pursuing their dreams/goals.”

This season, Duggan threw for 696 yards with four touchdowns and added 300 yards rushing with five more scores after taking over as the starter for the Battlehawks, who went 8-2 in the regular season before falling in the conference championship game.

Duggan led TCU to the College Football Playoff national championship game in 2022 and was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy after throwing for 3,698 yards and 32 touchdowns and rushing for 423 yards and nine more scores.

In his college career, Duggan threw for 9,618 yards and 73 touchdowns and ran for 1,856 yards and 28 scores.

Duggan was drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL draft. He spent most of the season on the practice squad and didn’t appear in a game.
