TCU basketball’s Jamie Dixon receives USA Basketball award
TCU men’s basketball coach Jamie Dixon received some recognition on Tuesday.
USA Basketball named Dixon the 2021 developmental coach of the year along with UCLA’s Cori Close.
Dixon led the USA U19 World Cup Team to a gold medal this summer, while Close led the U19 women’s team to a gold medal as well.
“It’s an honor to be a part of the winning tradition of USA Basketball,” said Dixon, who was the 2009 USA Basketball National Coach of the Year after he led the 2009 USA Men’s U19 World Cup Team to a gold medal.
“It’s always a goal to continue to grow and develop and be a part of great programs. I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to be around great players and great coaches.”
The men’s team went 7-0 and won by an average of 29.7 points per game at the 2021 FIBA World Cup from July 3-11 in Latvia. Team USA led the field in total points (665), field goal percentage (.477) and assists (177).
TCU sophomore guard Mike Miles was part of the team, along with Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren (who won MVP honors), Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s Patrick Baldwin Jr., Stanford’s Harrison Ingram and Tennessee’s Kennedy Chandler.
Dixon and the Horned Frogs, meanwhile, are off to an 8-1 start this season. TCU travels to Georgetown on Saturday as part of the Big 12/Big East Battle. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
