TCU’s Heard picks up Big 12 honor after leading Frogs to upset victory over Texas A&M
Lauren Heard played a starring role in TCU women’s basketball upsetting No. 18 Texas A&M 87-75 on Sunday at Schollmaier Arena.
Heard’s performance received recognition a day later as the Big 12 named her the league’s player of the week.
Heard finished with a season-high 33 points with more than half of them coming from the free-throw line (18 of 21). Heard helped seal the game by making 13 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter.
The 18 free throws made are the second-most in TCU single-game history and tied for the second-most on the Big 12’s all-time list for free throws made in a game.
Heard is the first TCU player to earn Big 12 weekly honors this season. It is the fifth overall in her career. On the season, Heard is leading the team with 18.4 points and 7.5 rebounds a game.
The women’s victory came a day after the TCU men defeated Texas A&M in Houston.
The women improved to 4-4 on the season and return to action against Incarnate Word at 1 p.m. Sunday at Schollmaier Arena.
