Stormy weekend ahead for North Texas as FIFA World Cup kicks off
Fans traveling to Arlington’s AT&T Stadium on Sunday, June 14, for the FIFA World Cup will be met with stormy weather.
Before then, isolated to scattered storms are possible Friday, June 12, morning and afternoon, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. Some of these storms could produce frequent lightning and strong downburst winds.
For areas that do not see storms, it will be a hot afternoon with highs in the low 90s and heat index values between 100 and 105 degrees. Heading into Saturday, June 13, skies will remain dry as highs hang around the mid-90s with heat index values again over triple digits.
Storm chances return Sunday and continue into Monday, June 15, as a cold front arrives.
The NWS said some storms could produce lightning, flooding, heavy rain and strong downburst winds. Folks should plan for possible disruptions to outdoor activities due to storms.
Luckily for soccer fans attending Netherlands-Japan on Sunday afternoon, AT&T Stadium has a retractable roof that will remain closed for the entirety of the World Cup.
