Large hail, damaging winds possible in North Texas as cold front arrives
A cold front will bring a chance of severe weather to North Texas this week.
Conditions will be warm and windy on Monday, May 18, with highs right around 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. There’s a low chance (20%) of rain overnight.
By Tuesday, May 19, the front will arrive and bring chances of rain throughout the day. Some storms could be severe with large hail and damaging winds as the main threats.
The NWS released the following storm timing for Tuesday:
- Northwestern counties like Young, Jack and Montague: Earliest start at 8 a.m., most likely from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and ending by 4 p.m.
- Central counties like Tarrant and Dallas: Earliest start at 10 a.m., most likely from 1-6 p.m. and ending by 8 p.m.
- Central Texas counties: Earliest at 2 p.m., most likely at 4-10 p.m. and ending by midnight.
Showers and thunderstorms will continue on Wednesday, May 20.

- Thursday, May 21- 79 degrees, 70% chance of rain
- Friday, May 22- 81 degrees, 50% chance of rain
- Saturday, May 23- 84 degrees, 20-40% chance of rain
- Sunday, May 24- 85 degrees, 20% chance of rain
