Salt & Straw opening on Magnolia Avenue in Fort Worth this month. Here’s when
Portland-based Salt & Straw, known for its unexpected ice cream flavors, will officially open in Fort Worth this month.
In classic Salt & Straw fashion, they will be celebrating their first Texas stores by offering a Frito pie-flavored sundae. Their classic double-fold vanilla ice cream will be topped with candied Fritos chip crumbles, whipped sour cream, a cheddar crisp wafer, chipotle fudge, and green sprinkles.
There will also be two exclusive, Texas-inspired flavors — Cream Cheese Jalapeño Jelly and Paloma Sherbet. Cream cheese ice cream will be ribboned with jalapeño jelly and topped with crumbly Ritz crackers. The Paloma Sherbet is grapefruit and reposado tequila swirled with chili lime curd.
Don’t let the Frito pie flavor scare you away — Salt & Straw ice cream is known for its richness, packed with as much butter-fat content as possible — similar to Melt. As for flavors, if you like Morgan’s Ice Cream on South Main (which offers a rotating monthly menu of adventurous flavors), Salt & Straw may appeal to you as well.
Salt & Straw keeps permanent flavors like Arbequina olive oil, chocolate gooey brownie and strawberry honey balsamic with black pepper, and also offers a rotating list of monthly flavors. Currently, there is a strawberry tres leches and rhubarb crumble for a limited time in May.
The first Texas location opened in Dallas on May 15. The Fort Worth store on Magnolia Avenue opens on May 22.
