Will cold weather stick around in North Texas on New Year’s Day? Here’s the latest

After a warm weekend, North Texas is feeling a cooldown that will ultimately be short-lived.

Much of the region woke up to temperatures in the 30s on Monday, Dec. 29, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. Monday’s daily high will kick around the mid-40s with sunny skies overhead.

A warm-up will begin Tuesday, Dec. 30, as temperatures hover around the low 50s. Temperatures will continue to rise on Wednesday, Dec. 31 (New Year’s Eve), into the mid-60s.

On Thursday, Jan. 1 (New Year’s Day), daily highs will be around 70 degrees in the Metroplex, according to the NWS. Temperatures will get a little warmer on Friday, Jan. 2, with highs in the low 70s.

Weekend outlook and rain chances

Heading into the weekend, much of the same weather is in the forecast.

Highs on Saturday, Jan. 3, will be in the mid-60s with sunny skies overheard. On Sunday, Jan. 4, temperatures will be in the upper 60s. As for rain chances this week and weekend, the NWS does not have any in the forecast.

Temperatures over the week and weekend will be above normal for this time of the year, per NWS climate data. The normal max temperature for Dec. 29 to Jan. 4 is 56 degrees.

  • Monday, Dec. 29- 47 degrees
  • Tuesday, Dec. 30- 52 degrees
  • Wednesday, Dec. 31- 65 degrees
  • Thursday, Jan. 1- 69 degrees
  • Friday, Jan. 2- 72 degrees
  • Saturday, Jan. 3- 65 degrees
  • Sunday, Jan. 4- 69 degrees
