Fort Worth will feel like triple digits all weekend. Here’s when it’ll cool down
Buckle up, North Texas: This weekend’s going to be a hot one.
The heat index for Friday, Aug. 8, will feel like 109 degrees, and North Texas is under a heat advisory through the evening of Aug. 8, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth.
Friday will be the hottest day of this week and the next in the Metroplex, with highs around 100 degrees Friday, according to the NWS forecasters’ discussion.
Folks should drink plenty of water throughout the weekend, because the heat index value (or “feels like” temperature) for Saturday, Aug. 9, will be as high as 108 degrees.
And this weekend’s forecast is a preview of what’s in store for next week: hot and sunny. Here’s what to expect.
North Texas weekend forecast
The Fort Worth NWS forecast for Aug. 8 to 10 is:
- Friday: The hottest day of the week with a high of 102, low of 79. Winds are 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.
- Saturday: High near 100, low near 78. Winds 10 to 15 mph.
- Sunday: High of 97, low of 77. Winds 5 to 10 mph.
Week of Aug. 11 forecast for North Texas
After the weekend, temperatures will slightly cool down. Heat indexes will range from 90s to 105.
- Monday: High of 96, low of 77.
- Tuesday: High of 97, low of 77.
- Wednesday: High of 97, low of 78.
- Thursday: High near 97.
How to stay cool in the Texas heat
To stay cool in the heat, the NWS suggests:
- Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
- Take frequent breaks in the shade or in air conditioning.
- Wear light-colored, breathable clothing if you are outside.
- Never leave kids or pets in vehicles — look before you lock.
