Strong storms may spoil weekend plans in North Texas. Here’s the latest
North Texas will see a slight reprieve from the heat this weekend as storms roll in.
It’s been a scorcher of a week for the Metroplex as the region finally recorded its first 100-degree day of the year on July 29. Triple-digit heat continued on the following two days, including 104 degrees on July 31.
Storms and showers are in the mix for the Metroplex on Friday, Aug. 1, due to a stalled front, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth.
Some of these storms could become strong with gusty winds, localized flooding and frequent lightning all possible. The NWS said areas north of Interstate 20 and east of Interstate 35 will have the greatest potential for localized flooding in the afternoon and evening hours.
Storms continue over the weekend
Heading into the rest of the weekend, storms and showers will continue sporadically.
Isolated to scattered storms are expected across much of the region on Saturday, Aug. 2, per the NWS. Some storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning.
Stormy conditions are less favorable on Sunday, Aug. 3, with areas to the northwest and southeast of the Metroplex eyeing better chances for storms during the day. There’s a 20-30% chance of storms for North Texas late Sunday into Monday, Aug. 4.
The stormy activity will help lower temperatures into the mid-90s Friday, along with the low 90s on Saturday and Sunday. Heat index values are expected to be in the 90s to low 100s for much of the weekend.
