Hail, severe storms in the mix for Memorial Day weekend in Fort Worth

Severe weather could potentially spoil Memorial Day weekend plans in North Texas.

Conditions on Friday, May 23, and Saturday, May 24, will be warm with storm chances staying northwest of the Metroplex, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. Similar weather is in the mix for about half of Sunday, May 25.

Isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop along the Red River late Sunday near a cold front. Thunderstorm coverage will likely increase late Sunday into Monday, May 26, as the front moves south, according to the NWS.

The greatest storm chances will be through Monday morning and evening along and south of Interstate 20. The main severe threats with this activity will be large hail and damaging winds, with widespread rainfall totals expected to be around 1 to 2 inches.

Storm chances continue next week

Low storm chances are expected to continue into much of next week.

As of Friday, there’s a 30% chance of storms on Tuesday, May 27, 30% on Wednesday, May 28, and 40% on Thursday, May 29. In addition to the storm chances, cooler weather in the 80s is expected next week, according to the NWS.
