A heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for most of North Texas starting Thursday afternoon through 8 p.m. Friday.

“Temperatures will range in the 90s to the 100s most days, with heat indices anywhere from 105 to 112,” the NWS alert reads. “Remember to stay hydrated, limit time outside during peak heating, and if you must be outdoors, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing.”

The advisory includes Tarrant, Dallas and Ellis counties.

Reports in the Star-Telegram have telegraphed the string of hot days coming this weekend. North Texas is headed into the hot portion of the summer based on historical data.

Storms with hail and strong winds expected in Fort Worth Thursday afternoon

This week started with severe storms on Monday and Tuesday, which will continue into Thursday and even this weekend, said Bianca Garcia, meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.

The main window of concern for Thursday is between 4 and 11 p.m. The storm could bring chances of hail, damaging winds and the possibility of an isolated tornado, but the greatest threat will be west of the Metroplex, Garcia said.

“The [storms are] isolated, but as they develop and they’re in your area, there’s a threat for all hazards of severe weather,” Garcia said.

Friday will be mostly sunny with a high of 98 degrees, but storms return to the forecast later this weekend.

Severe thunderstorm chances arrive Saturday afternoon going into the evening, with the possibility of again damaging winds and hail, Garcia said. After the Saturday storms, Sunday and Monday will be both sunny and warm.

Due to the rain chances and cloud coverage, the high temperature this weekend will be in the high 90s and flirt with triple digits, Garcia said. However, the heat index will make it feel like its 106 to 109 degrees this weekend.

“Although we’re not reaching the triple digit heat, it will feel like triple digit heat for much of the Metroplex,” Garcia said.

The chances for 100-degree days come back early next week. The NWS is currently forecasting a high of 99 degrees on Monday, followed by 101 degrees on both Tuesday and Wednesday.
