Torrential rainfall extends flash flood watch for Fort Worth, North Texas

The wet weather pattern continued Wednesday..

It’s been raining since Friday and that’s why Tarrant County was under a flash flood warning for several hours on Wednesday morning.

Overnight rainfall totals looked like this: 1.44 inches at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, Mansfield received 2.63 inches, Grand Prairie had 2.37 inches and in south Fort Worth residents there got 2.30 inches, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

In some neighborhoods of Fort Worth, residents have seen more than four inches of rain since Friday.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth also extended a flash flood watch for Tarrant County and North Texas until 7 p.m. Thursday.

At 4:19 a.m., Doppler radar and automated gauges indicated thunderstorms were producing up to two inches of rain. That has prompted the warning in northern Johnson county, southeastern Parker County and Tarrant County.

The heavy rain had caused flooding in small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Another one to two inches of rain are possible in those areas Wednesday morning, according to the NWS in Fort Worth.

In Fort Worth, police reported water calls Wednesday morning in the southbound lanes of the North Freeway, at Cleburne Road and W. Berry St. and the Interstate 30 westbound ramp at Alta Mere.

Just before 6 a.m. Fort Worth firefighters also were at the scene of high water in the 2000 block of Beach Street.

In addition, patrol officers were responding to several major traffic accidents in Fort Worth.

Tarrant County residents get a little break during the daytime hours on Wednesday as there’s just a slight chance of more showers and thunderstorms. High should be about 79 on Wednesday.

Another round of storms are headed for Tarrant County on Wednesday night. Some storms could be severe with large hail and damaging winds. there’s a 70 percent chance of rain Wednesday night.

Forecasters also say there’s a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday.
