An ice chest, trash can or even a five-gallon bucket are valid vessels for Cinemark’s “Bring Your Own Bucket” promotion.

In 2025, the Plano-based movie theater chain announced the oversized deal in honor of National Popcorn Day, which is Jan. 19. For $5, guests could fill any large container of their choosing to the brim with popcorn.

Cinemark is bringing back the promotion this year, this time for two days on Jan. 18-19.

“Last year’s ‘Bring Your Own Bucket’ event for National Popcorn Day reimagined what this holiday could be for all movie-popcorn lovers, as people showed incredible creativity with their vessels and made the celebration truly unforgettable for both guests and our theater teams,” said Wanda Gierhart Fearing, Cinemark chief marketing and content officer, in a press release.

All folks have to do is bring any type of container and pay $5 to take advantage of the promotion.

The container will be filled with up to 400 ounces of popcorn, which Cinemark says is equivalent to two extra large popcorn orders. The promotion is valid one-time per customer, and folks do not have to purchase a movie ticket to participate.

Cinemark is also collaborating with Lowe’s Home Improvement on the deal.

Those who bring a Lowe’s 5-gallon bucket will have the 400-ounce figure waived, and instead have their entire 650-ounce container filled for the same $5 price. Food-grade bucket liners will be available at concession stands, according to Cinemark.

In addition, people who bring Lowe’s buckets will receive a special coupon for “future popcorn cravings” valid from Feb. 1 through Feb. 26.

“Helpfulness is at the heart of the Lowe’s brand, and it shows up in the everyday moments customers share with family and friends — even a night at the movies,” said Jen Wilson, Lowe’s senior vice president and chief marketing officer, in a press release. “Our iconic blue bucket brings utility and delight wherever it goes, including the theater. Teaming up with Cinemark is a fun, simple way to give families even more value from something they already rely on throughout the year.”
