A 20-year-old man who was fatally shot outside Flips Patio Grill in north Fort Worth early Sunday was an employee of the restaurant and was ambushed while leaving work, a family friend said.

Isaiah Angel Gonzales ended his shift at the restaurant at 2:30 a.m. and was getting into a car with his girlfriend when they were ambushed by two people who fired multiple rounds into the driver side of the vehicle where Gonzales was, a friend wrote on a GoFundMe page organized for funeral expenses.

When Fort Worth police officers arrived to investigate the shooting, they found Gonzales in the parking lot of Flips, at 6613 Fossil Bluff Drive, with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital, where he died in the ICU, police have said.

Gonzales, who friends called “Zae,” had recently moved into an apartment with his girlfriend and sister, and “finding the funds now to give him a proper burial and funeral will be a little difficult,” according to the GoFundMe post.

“We love you zae, gone but never forgotten,” the GoFundMe organizer wrote.

The shooters left the crime scene on foot, police said in a news release.

No suspects have been arrested in the case. Homicide detectives are investigating.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our employees, Isaiah Gonzalez,” Flips Patio Grill restaurant management wrote in a statement on social media.

“Isaiah had been part of our team for the past two years, and he was a hardworking young man who will be missed greatly by all of us,” according to the statement. “Our hearts and sincere condolences go out to his family, his loved ones, and everyone affected by this loss.

“We are fully supporting law enforcement as they complete their investigation, and we ask the community to keep Isaiah’s family in their thoughts during this difficult time,” the post reads.
