A pickup truck driver lost control Tuesday evening and crashed into a south Fort Worth apartment, killing a man inside, police said.

Officers responded to Trinity Meadows Apartments, at 4633 Sycamore School Road, shortly before 6:30 p.m. The pickup had swerved from the street and hit a first-floor apartment. The apartment’s resident was critically injured and died on the way to the hospital, according to police.

The family of the man who died identified him as 39-year-old Raidel Liranza Alvarez. His sister, who said she is the only relative who lives close by, started a GoFundMe to raise money for Alvarez’s funeral.

The driver of the pickup stayed at the scene and was given a field sobriety test, but didn’t show any signs of being drunk, police said.

The Traffic Investigation Unit is looking into what caused the crash.
