One person died and another was injured in a wrong-way crash in Richland Hills early Sunday, police said.

Richland Hills police received reports around 5:30 a.m. of a wrong-way driver traveling north in the southbound lanes of Texas 121 , according to a news release.

After the wrong-way vehicle crashed into another car, police officers and firefighters responded to the 6900 block of Texas 121, police said.

When first responders arrived, one of the vehicles was “fully engulfed in flames,” police said in the release.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and found the driver, the sole occupant, inside the vehicle, police said.

This driver was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver and only occupant of the second vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

Investigators determined that the driver who died was traveling the wrong way when their vehicle struck the victim’s vehicle. The driver might have been intoxicated, police said.
