A Decatur middle school student was killed and three other children were injured when an ATV overturned in Wise County on Saturday, Nov. 30, officials said.

Wise County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the ATV crash about 4:30 p.m. in the 300 block of County Road 3250, officials said in a news release.

When deputies arrived they found the ATV overturned in a field and four children — ages 13, 13, 12 and 9 injured.

The driver told deputies that he took a sharp turn and the ATV flipped, officials said.

One of the children, Robert “Treb” McKinnon, was taken to Medical City Hospital in Decatur where he later died, officials said.

Two others were also taken to the hospital for their injuries. One child was released after being treated by Wise County Emergency Services at the scene, officials said.

McKinnon was a student at McCarroll Middle School, Decatur ISD officials said in a statement.

“We ask that you keep the McKinnons close in your hearts and in your prayers,” district officials said in a release sent out to families. “Our school community is holding this family in love and support during an unimaginable time of grief.”

Counselors were available at the middle school on Monday to support the students, families and staff, according to the statement.
