Witness tells Fort Worth police man ran into pond near Target before drowning

Police are investigating the death of a man who drowned in a southwest Fort Worth pond on Sunday to determine whether it was an accident or suicide, officials said.

A witness told police she saw the man run into the pond next to Target at 5700 Overton Ridge Drive shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday. She called 911 when she saw he was having trouble in the water.

Divers from the fire department pulled the man out, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The man, who authorities have said was in his 20s, has not been publicly identified.

Detectives are investigating the case.
