H-E-B in Fort Worth

Yes, it’s finally happening. After multiple announcements that H-E-B is expanding into North Texas, a location of the popular Texas grocery chain is finally coming to Fort Worth. Here’s what you need to know:

As the Collin County cities of McKinney and Allen broke ground for their H-E-B grocery stores last month and the City of Forney announced its plan to bring the supermarket to Kaufman County, Tarrant County residents begged the popular Texas chain to make its way to the west side of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

In a survey published by the Star-Telegram in March, 2,243 out of 2,267 respondents said they wanted to see an H-E-B in Fort Worth. And on Wednesday, it was announced that wish is coming true.

The first Fort Worth H-E-B location is set to be built at Parkside at Alliance Town Center, on the city’s north side, alongside a string of restaurants and services including: Torchy’s Tacos, CAVA, Black Rifle Coffee Company and Dash Nail Spa. The other restaurant and retail businesses are expected to be completed by early 2023, according to a news release from developer Hillwood, but a spokesperson said there’s no estimated date yet for the H-E-B’s opening.

Once the news was announced, H-E-B fans took to social media to express their excitement.

“Just down the road from me! Cannot wait!!! I have missed H-E-B,” one Facebook user commented.

“@HEB coming to Fort Worth right by my house! With gas being so high, I can walk to HEB,” another wrote on Twitter, with the grocery chain responding, “Just wear a hat when you walk on over.”

“BREAKING BREAKING BREAKING… my heart is so happy right now,” another excited user wrote on Twitter.

But for others, although the news the grocery store is coming to Tarrant County is something that was anticipated, they were disappointed it isn’t closer to central or south Fort Worth.

“Nope, not where I told them to build one…(Bryant Irvin at Altamesa). Dang it…” one Facebook comment on the Star-Telegram’s post read.

“Oh, darn. I won’t deal with that north I-35 mess to get up there. Easier to go to Hudson (Oaks,)” another said.

Alongside complaints of the north Fort Worth location, others brought up land that was purchased by H-E-B in Mansfield back in 2016, and six years later no movement has been made on when construction will begin.

“Remember that time they said we were getting one in Mansfield,” one comment said, with others responding, “was thinking the same thing, been waiting for years.”

Last year, at the Plano groundbreaking, Juan-Carlos Ruck, vice president of food and drugs for the northwest division of H-E-B, told the Star-Telegram the company doesn’t rush into decisions on expansion.

“We’re starting here [in Plano and Frisco], but obviously we’re committed to the Metroplex,” Ruck said. “Our interest is to serve all of the Metroplex over time with all of our formats.”

The news of the Fort Worth H-E-B comes alongside a string of North Texas expansions with locations being built in Allen, McKinney, Plano and Frisco. Construction for the location in Forney has not begun yet.
