H-E-B broke ground on an 118,000-square-foot store in McKinney on Thursday, sparking questions on when the beloved San Antonio-based grocer, whose slogan is “Here, Everything’s Better,” will make its move to Fort Worth.

The McKinney location, estimated to be complete late next year, is the third store to begin construction in the Dallas area. Despite owning land in Tarrant County, the chain has not announced when it will expand closer to Cowtown.

Here’s what we know about H-E-B coming to Tarrant County.

Where are the nearest H-E-B locations to Fort Worth?

There are two H-E-B locations near Fort Worth — both are 25-30 minutes away from the city.

One, an H-E-B Plus!, is in Burleson at 165 NW John Jones Drive. Going west toward Weatherford is an H-E-B in Hudson Oaks at 100 Hudson Oaks Drive. Both locations are open seven days a week from 6 a.m.-11 p.m.

What have H-E-B representatives said about a Fort Worth store?

Last year H-E-B broke ground on its locations in Plano and Frisco, despite stalled plans to build in Mansfield, where the company purchased land in 2016. At the Plano groundbreaking, Juan-Carlos Ruck, vice president of food and drugs for the northwest division of the company, told the Star-Telegram the company doesn’t rush into decisions on expansion.

“We’re starting here [in Plano and Frisco], but obviously we’re committed to the Metroplex,” Ruck said. “Our interest is to serve all of the Metroplex over time with all of our formats.”

As of early March, there has been no time frame announced for when H-E-B plans to expand.

When will H-E-B break ground in Mansfield?

H-E-B purchased land in Mansfield in 2016, but six years later no movement has been made on when construction will begin.

During a Feb. 10 city council meeting, Mansfield City Council addressed H-E-B company leaders present at the meeting about the need and desire to start construction.

Councilman Casey Lewis promised the city will do anything it can to work with H-E-B to make the store happen.

Despite encouraging words from council members and the mayor, company leaders have not set a time frame of when ground will break on the property.
