North Texas city approves site plan for H-E-B store as grocer’s DFW expansion continues
The City of Forney, located about 55 miles east of Fort Worth, will become the newest North Texas home to another H-E-B grocery location.
The Kaufman County city announced the decision on Tuesday night on Twitter.
“It’s official! During tonight’s meeting, Forney City Council approved a site plan for H.E.B.,” the city said. “The property is located behind the RaceTrac Gas Station and the McDonald’s restaurant at the F.M. 548 and F.M. 1641 intersection. More information on this exciting project is coming soon.”
In a poll conducted by the Star-Telegram, over 99% of respondents said they hope for the popular Texas-based grocery store chain to make its way to Fort Worth.
The nearest H-E-B’s to Fort Worth are in Burleson and Hudson Oaks, near Weatherford — both about 25-30 minutes away from the city.
In 2016, the chain bought land in Mansfield, but there have been no updates on when construction might start.
H-E-B also is expanding into Collin County in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Earlier this month, H-E-B broke ground on an 118,000-square-foot store in McKinney. The McKinney location is estimated to be complete late next year. The grocery chain broke ground for stores in Plano and Frisco in June 2021.
