Detectives working with few leads in death of baby buried in flowerpot
Carrollton detectives were working with few leads Thursday in the death investigation of a baby whose body was found buried in a flowerpot and placed in a cemetery.
Carrollton police had not received many tips after asking for help with the investigation on Wednesday.
But police said they had collected several requests from residents who wanted to donate for a plot and a proper burial for the 6-pound baby girl discovered March 11.
An employee at Perry Cemetery, 1805 N. Perry Road, in Carrollton, found the baby girl.
A caretaker emptied the flowerpot after finding that it was out of place at the cemetery, Carrollton police said. The baby’s body was found under the soil.
Officials with the medical examiner’s office later determined the baby was 34 weeks to full term with the umbilical cord still attached.
Carrollton police said the baby’s race could not definitely be determined, and they were awaiting additional tests to determine whether she was born alive.
The caretaker told Carrollton police the flowerpot was placed at the cemetery sometime between Feb. 27 and March 2.
