A theft suspect in a vehicle whom police officers pursued from a store in North Richland Hills died on Sunday in Fort Worth of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.

The suspect, a 58-year-old man whose name authorities have not released, was driving and crashed near the 4700 block of West Loop 820, hitting a light pole and stopping in traffic lanes, authorities said. As officers approached the vehicle, they found the suspect’s slumped body.

North Richland Hills Police Department officers chased the vehicle from a Walmart on Northeast Loop 820 into the city of Fort Worth.

No Fort Worth officers were involved in the pursuit.
