Suspect arrested in shooting that killed man at Fort Worth apartment complex
Fort Worth police have arrested a suspect they believe shot and killed a man on an apartment complex staircase, according to jail records.
DeJon Spencer, 23, faces a murder charge in the Sept. 8 death of 60-year-old Keith Charles Carter, according to the records.
Police responded to the apartment complex in the 6500 block of Tomstock Drive, in west Fort Worth, shortly after 8 a.m. on that day. Officers found Carter with a gunshot wound to his upper body, officials said.
The preliminary investigation found that Carter was involved in an argument and fight with someone when a man shot Carter and fled, police said at the time.
Spencer was booked into the city jail on Friday. Police were not immediately able to release an arrest warrant affidavit for Spencer over the weekend.
Carter “was the light to our bad days and he made sure to make you laugh every single day,” his children wrote on a GoFundMe account to raise money for funeral expenses. “He lived his life to the fullest and was smiling every day.”
